I take experienced a series of mis-steps by RCN, and wildly escaping prices since last November. In a majority organisation with my building, the agreement apparently lapsed in May 2017. Nobody was informed. The prices crept up. Until October 2018, my bill had reached about $214.00 p/chiliad for merely OK service, and low internet speeds. Information technology increased the next month to $253.00, with no good explanation. Then again in May it went to 276.00, and so June July to 324!!! Later on repeated calls to client care, I have received no skillful explanation for this, except the first ones in March, which told me that although the quondam bulk understanding had lapsed, all the one-time coding was locked in place, and couldn't be changed, which deemed for the cost hikes, and further being unable to alter them. Later on alerting my edifice and RCN to this, we are in a new bulk agreement, which is dorsum to 165.00, with RCN, and the consolidator.
However, every fourth dimension I call about resolution and refunds for wildly overcharged services, I get double talked and a runaround. Every time I called back, I had to start the whole story again, because they practice not go along skillful or accurate phone call notes. The last telephone call, to a Victoria, seemed to brand Headway, and terminal Wednesday I accept her a week to get back to me, earlier I finally switched to Spectrum, after 5 threats. She got back the next day, just only left a voicemail, promising to call back on Thursday to "encounter if I would similar the outcome of what was negotiated" for me. It is Mon and I am still waiting. I merely called once more to see the upshot of the case, to be told the example is closed with no resolution in my favor. RCN, if you are reading this, I am positively irresolute to Spectrum on Wednesday at 10am. If you would like my business for some other xx years, you had ameliorate brand that happen. I am furious.

Their marketing is for 'low cost internet' and it is anything but that. It's extremely high for terrible service. I signed upwardly for the 1GB super speed connectedness for gamers and gauge what, even Youtube videos take forever to load. A much lower speed connection for Xfinity or AT&T are much much faster and more reliable. Complained multiple times and nothing ever happens. It's straight-up fraud. This internet service has been a source of major frustration in my life these days. If you have a modify to cull between RCN and anything else, pick annihilation else.

I had no issues for the first couple years but for a long fourth dimension at present the speed (gigabit) has been inconsistent. Plus I'thou going on a week at present with no service due to a minor damaged line outside my building. Service tech identifies the trouble on a Tues and I'm told Thur will be fixed. Then I'thousand told Friday. So I'k told they tried to contact me multiple times (which is a complete lie and I accept unanswered texts to a "structure supervisor") so now I'1000 stuck through the weekend again waiting on Mon.
Poor advice on date/time service will be restored. Lack of sense of urgency in helping me. Now my trust and faith is gone and my internet service that I rely on volition exist down for who knows how long so seeking alternatives ASAP. You're ameliorate off going with a larger Internet access provider particularly now that prices have came down and availability of fiber expanding.

I was out of town for a week and came back to no reception on the tv. Called the company and could either remember later or wait online for 40 minutes. Hung up and called again--lots of outages!!! So I stayed online for the next agent and received no assistance that put my television back to service. Well of course I could PAY to have a service amanuensis come out. Feel similar throwing the Television to the adjourn. LOUSY service--FIX the connectedness RCN.

I would give them a negative rate; specifically, their billing practices. I called RCN with what I thought was a simple request "delight explicate why in that location is a late fee for a bill that is not due yet, when I do not have an outstanding balance". They could not explain; I think it's because their organization is so stealth and non forthright. The first rep, just did not know what he was talking about; I asked for a supervisor, he could non explain any better. I had to call them again, and this time I got some woman (Rachel?) who was very condescending.

I switched from Comcast to RCN and inside the starting time week I regret the change. RCN reps has little to no grooming in Customer service and there Tech are worse. I had the techs come to my business firm to right a problem past the contractor that RCN sent to install my service. Why use a contractor for first customer install? Seriously. Then when they did send one of their ain they try to charge me for their damn mistakes. Wth you were thinking. And so they send y'all a disconnection letter of the alphabet for a calendar month bill. Your company needs new management and new customer service preparation. Hate the fact that I switched and so because of their mistake they did ship the gift card the the and so call supervisor hope because their installation was washed wrong...

I've used RCN for most 3 months now. During the final month or so, the connection keeps having a trouble. WiFi is showing as connected, only we cannot connect to the internet. We tried turning off the router and turning it back on once more, simply the problem notwithstanding persists across all our devices, no matter the range. I called their support team to try to get some aid. The representative didn't fifty-fifty permit me terminate my sentence and keep cutting me off by saying that in that location had not been whatsoever problem in the last calendar month or so based on their tool (which is very different to what we have experienced). He tried to sell us another device which he said would improve our security, without even listening fully to what the event was. No other solution was offered except for telling us to turn the router on and off again, which we have tried earlier. No empathy shown whatsoever and the whole conversation felt very patronising. Nosotros are now searching for some other provider...

RCN is storing consumers' personal information (bank card, gift cards, etc.) without the consumer'southward permission or knowledge. It does not request permission either. I attempted to make a payment via mobile, online and via an amanuensis. Neither one processed the payment via a debit bill of fare. When I talked to an agent, she blamed the pre-paid/gift cards for not processing payments to companies that have recurring bills such equally an utility company. That is a lie. The gift cards practice not block one-time payments to utility companies regardless of whether information technology is a single payment or non. It does not allow recurring payments, which is what RCN does in its payment system by saving consumer information. A 2nd agent I talked to had no explanation for any of this. She said the payment could not be processed without the system saving data.
This causes at least three bug:
one.) A company must request permission to store/salvage any financial data about y'all used for payments. RCN does non do this. Information technology is just storing information technology without your permission.
2. The company claims to procedure former payments, but its system stores that financial data without your permission or noesis. So RCN is misleading consumers with its payment options, lying to consumers who process online or via mobile, and deflecting blame for its dishonesty onto another company.
3.) By saving your personal fiscal information, RCN is breaching consumer privacy without consent AND making the consumer vulnerable to identity theft at the least. If someone were to hack its system, the consumer who did not provide permission to RCN to save their records or didn't know their data was stored, is greatly exposed.
This sounds like a class-activeness accommodate waiting to happen. This needs to change now.

First of all, clients don't easily switch services between providers unless there are reasons for them to do so. I have been using Spectrum service for years and even my bills went up to close to $150/ month, I am still a loyal customer to them. RCN has been sending me mails regarding to this wonderful promotion that cutting my nib to as depression as $39 a month. After near a yr of abiding contacts, I finally went online to find out if the deal is every bit skillful every bit it says. When chatting to an amanuensis online, he offered me a triple packet services for $69 a month plus tax and fees and surcharge. The installation is free with a code: NYFREE. I happily signed on for it. That's more than l% savings of my current Spectrum nib.
After the installation, the first beak arrived. Shockingly, it costs me over $190, including a $60 installation and $70 tax, fees and surcharge. Put yourself in my shoe, what would you feel? Kickoff of all, you didn't award the promise of waiving installation fees. Secondly, who would look the "tax, fees and surcharge" toll more the plan itself? At least the agent should advise the client the fact in advance, so there won't be any surprises. I chosen and talked to customer service people. She was not able and non willing to help. I take no choice but terminate the service. And every bit you tin await, I will never trust RCN's words ever again! A very disappointed one-time customer.

After three years of being a loyal customer, RCN raised my cost $25. I called them to ask why and the rep told me that it is their right to heighten prices at whatever time they wanted. She had an attitude, and did not bother to look up whatsoever bundles that I could switch to. Fifty-fifty though their website had two different bundles at the aforementioned rate and lower. I told her I wanted to cancelled and pay my beak. She chop-chop dismissed me and said goodbye. Immediately later, I log into my account to pay and she had already lock me out of my account. Had to call again and pay over the phone. Poor, poor client service.

I worked in It and saw forewarnings most what was going to happen as the industry changed. Here we are and it's bad out in that location.
1. I've had similar experiences to 99% of the bad reviews on this site.
2. RCN is role of a corporate herding mentality. They strip off cheaper services because they believe they can herd consumers into needless and more than expensive services.
-- I know the speed we need just RCN dropped that tier to strength people into higher speeds while they talk near how much faster information technology volition be. I DON'T Need TO PAY FOR A HIGHER SPEED.
-- They requite useless services that once again, we don't demand.
-- The increase on their modem/router is ghastly. Nosotros have the option of buying a modem/router and this is clearly some other ripoff.
-- Prior land: A neighbour up the side of a mount had computer issues. I brought their laptop down to our house and still was able to connect to their visitor. Nosotros moved to a house where nosotros had the modem/router on 1 floor and computers on others (no less than our setup hither with RCN) and information technology worked fine. RCN attempts to herd you to buy another item to increase the speed (I don't get what they said anyhow, so refused).
iii. Herding mentality: A) Give no contracts for the illusion y'all'll be okay. Not truthful. After 6 months, cost increased $five.00. This appears minor merely I took it as a alert sign. B) Afterward a year, the increase total is @50%.
There's more just the other bad review say information technology. RCN may claim but they're rated and then well by various magazines. Beware - I learned years ago that car mags like Route and Track requite companies "car of the year" when the reality was (and likely remains) that title was paid for past the auto company. I'k tired of this ridiculous company. It's worse than the worse. And I don't want to be contacted by anyone from RCN. They say they tin assist driblet the toll merely I've read besides many reviews where it'due south not true. Yes, I can drop services and will but information technology doesn't make upwardly for the mutual corporate greed where employees make very fiddling, they don't care about client retention, and the companies profit well from this.

This company is an absolute joke. I attempted to go "1gbps" internet installed on 6/ane and the technician couldn't go higher than 30mbps and basically told me "tough luck RCN says up to 1gbps" and left. I called and threatened to cancel and got the same tech again who still couldn't fix my problem and told me someone would exist in affect. I called over again that night after my cyberspace completely dropped and was told over the phone that information technology was the equipment. Needing the net for remote piece of work, I drove out to Best Purchase at 8:30PM to go my own modem. When I returned and called to set information technology up the technician over the phone could not get a betoken from my modem. He tells me it's definitely Non the equipment and that it's an result with the line. I was promised a technician Monday every bit they were closed on Sun.
Monday a technician shows up for two hours, basically shrugs and says someone would be out on Tuesday to look at the line exterior. Tuesday rolls around and I call for updates. The tech on the phone says that someone is at my building at present and they would call me with updates. No phone call. I get abode, the tech is gone and I notwithstanding have 30mbps. I accept at present been on hold for over 25 minutes waiting to speak to someone, likely so they tin can tell me "it should be working fine and they'll send a tech out tomorrow"- when I finally get an answer I'll be cancelling and going with Comcast, a judgement I never thought I would ever say or type again. Absolute garbage company. I would rather gouge my own eyes out with the feet of a side tabular array than deal with this for a year.

I was shocked when I saw my elderly mother'south cable bill. RCN was charging $202.72 per calendar month for the near basic of services. RCN is taking advantage of the elderly who don't know they demand to continually renegotiate. She was being punished for her 8 years of loyalty. RCN should be ashamed of their greed.

I've been with RCN for over three years now. I have their basic cablevision package along with 150 Mbps cyberspace. During my introductory rate, information technology came out to nigh $125 per month. In one case my introductory rate was upwardly, information technology went up to ~$150 per month. I didn't find this egregious, and stayed with the service. Now, over the last 6 months, my bills have jumped to $179 per month, then to $196 per month... and this past argument came and they raised my rate nearly another 70 DOLLARS to $264 per calendar month. With zero notice ahead of any of these increases. I waited until my current bill was well-nigh 6 days past due debating if I'd pay them at all. Well, in the end I did, merely to bank check the mail this morn and receive their promotional textile for new customers for an upgraded parcel over what I have, for $59.99 per month (mine is now $149.99 merely for the cable, before fees).
To say the least, this has left me furious with them. They'll be getting a cable cancellation phone call from me afterward piece of work today, as we may keep them for internet service at the moment, but even that I'm debating on switching. No excuse for such drastic increases with nix avant-garde notice. It is immeasurably dishonest, and without merit. Continuing to behave their concern this way will go along to result in folks cutting the chord from cable providers like RCN. Their lack of power to negotiate amend contacts with the cable networks is their own problem, and not 1 they should believe they tin simply saddle their customers with paying the difference.

After I canceled RCN service. Two weeks later found I was overcharged, and called customer service. The representative Annette was rude, unhelpful and refused to transfer me to her supervisor. I am located on Gaithersburg Dr.. I use to have Comcast (150 Mbps). After Comcast contract is finish (ordinarily i year) they raised the bill significantly and then I determine to try ane GB internet from RCN provider. When guys come to set up information technology was 950-960 Mbps for beginning day which isn't bad so he left. Afterward a week speed was and so slow when trying to stream or even using web browser. It significantly wearisome than Comcast 150 Mbps (only 1 device is added within this time period; echo dot) so I reset the modem and router and speed boost up to 300 before it was 75-76 Mbps.
Went ok. Smashing. Now after 1 month once more speed is constantly nether 100 Mbps and which is so annoying. I accept already washed normal troubleshooting irresolute wifi prisoner of war and disconnecting all devices and reconnecting everything. Nonetheless same speed. This is then abrasive and horrible provider. I will definitely say Comcast 150 Mbps speed was way more better and constant speed than this ane GB. I volition suggest if you tin take Comcast 300 Mbps around same toll as RCN 1 GB go for Comcast. Comcast 300 speed will do better job than RCN for sure. I am only waiting for contract to terminate and never ever ever gonna apply RCN service always. I know they are cheaper for GB internet than anyone else merely speed is 100 Mbps. Stay away from RCN.

I've had the 1G internet service for 2 years. In the outset, information technology worked pretty good, and they were the first to offer it at ~$100 a month in the Chicago surface area. Simply, the service during the final 6 months has been terrible. My household (consisting only of my girlfriend and I) stream DirecTVNow/Netflix/HBOGo/etc regularly because we chose non to have cablevision. I also work from abode. These reasons led us to go the 1G internet service, because 1G is WAY more than than we should demand. I continually ran speed tests throughout my service with RCN, and in the first twelvemonth, I was obtaining WiFi speeds betwixt 400mbps and 600mbps, which is groovy and more than we needed (the understanding states that the 1G speed is just attainable through ethernet and WiFi will be lower, which is understandable).
The terminal six months take been some other story. Non just are we regularly achieving less than 5mbps, but the internet goes completely out on a daily ground every few hours. When I have to connect to my mobile phone Verizon hotspot five times a day and information technology runs 10x faster than my 1G RCN internet, at that place is a problem. I thought it could be an event with my apt building, but nosotros have had techs come out 3 times to correct the issue, and when they practise information technology seems like they fixed the issue while they are here, but an hour afterward we realize they haven't.
I'm non certain what changed within the 2 years, but before RCN fixes it, my suggestion is to stay away. I used to recall that Comcast was the worst effectually, simply yesterday I could not acquit the net issues any longer, signed up for Xfinity, and I was using their hotspots within the hour, which provide more mbps than our 1G RCN does (I take numerous photos to prove information technology). That's non a gratis advertizing for Comcast, but a statement that they may be the bottom of 2 evils at the moment in this age-old competition between the two of who can be a worse service provider.

I've been an RCN client in the Boston surface area (phone & Internet) for nineteen years and I'm set up to call it quits. At least since Feb 14, 2019 when I started documenting it as a fashion to get RCN to act, RCN has been dropping my net phone line for vii minutes every hour on the 60 minutes. I have confronted them many times and after they swapped out my phone modem (needlessly) I was able to convince them the trouble was at their central switch.
I escalated up to a tech supervisor who finally admitted they were working on the switch and the trouble would keep for a while, just that it was a "short inconvenience". I received no alert, no request for permission, no support offer in instance I needed to telephone call the police or an ambulance. This is Nuts! If I'm on a call I either have to cease it before the clock strikes the 60 minutes or my line is cut and I cannot go phone service back for another seven minutes. I've attempted contacting the CEO by email since the master RCN phone line is ever busy - probably with complaint callers - and am hoping for some relief.

There is no other cable company where I live (I guess it is a PUC problem that supports such a monopoly). I adopt to have all phone (need a telephone), net, and TV from one source. A third of my bill is for surcharges for things like sports (which I exercise non spotter). Some channels have audio and video often out of synch. Channel lineup is poor (and am not using basic). Extremely long buffering times for say Netflix. Internet drops more oftentimes than I would like. Basically information technology is the worse service, specially for the price, that I have experienced since the onset of my cable Goggle box experience 50+ years back, roofing multiple providers. Some aspects are ok, but not close to the caste and weight of the issues.
